Island Changes

St. George Island used to be know as The Forgotten Coast. It sure looks like somebody remembered.

The place has changed greatly in the past year--starting with the completion of the lighthouse. I shlepped up the 92 steps this morning to get to the top. Upon arrival I felt like an ant under a magnifying glass. The temp outside was about 65-inside 165. I venture to say there won't be many visitors to the top this summer. That's the only positive change.

The rest? Not so much.

This monstrosity, on the main entrance corner is full of the typical tourist crap and certainly adds nothing to the architecture of the island.

Worse, it has forced the relocation of this island historical spot--the traveling fish guy, who has had to move down the street a few hundred yards.

But perhaps the most notable change in the area is the proliferation of new businesses advertising consignment furniture as a result of foreclosures. Mom said that one of the guys they used to rent from lost all 7 of his houses due to foreclosure.
